Food Review: Curry Times By Old Chang Kee
11:16:00Established in 1956 along Mackenzie Road near the Rex Cinema, Old Chang Kee's humble beginnings are synonymous with the fond memories of Singaporeans, young and old, taking mouthfuls of curry that burst with flavourful enjoyment every bite, complemented with the crispy goodness of fragrant, freshly fried pastry.
Known affectionately as 'Rex curry puffs', people travelled from every corner of Singapore to get a taste of the perfect snack. Every curry puff was made with painstakingly prepared ingredients; succulent curried potatoes, bite-sized chicken nibblets, slices of boiled egg, mixed into a perfect combination of herbs and curry spices, creating the flawless flavour and texture that Singaporeans have came to love over the past five decades.
Today, with modernised standards, processes and recipes improved over the years by vigorous studies of curry and spices, the Curry'O has led Old Chang Kee to heights never before thought possible. And they open their first restaurant in Singapore last year.
Soya Milk -
Average soya milk that you can get it anywhere.
Taste: 1.5/5
Teh Peng -
The teh peng was lacking of tea aroma and local teh taste.
Taste: 0.5/5
Stir Fried French Bean -
It was stir fried with sambal chili but this version was on the sweet side. The french bean was well stir fried, it was crunchy and a tad sweet due to the sauce.
Taste: 1.5/5
Curry Chicken -
The curry was creamy, aromatic, thick and right amount of spiciness. The succulent chicken was tender and well soaked with the curry aroma.
Taste: 4.5/5
Curry Fish Fillet -
Dive your chopsticks into the fish-filled depths of this fresh fish fillet stewed in sizzling hot curry complete with healthy serving of vegetable. What's the vegetable inside the pot? Tofu, binjal, ladyfinger and tomato. The curry was smooth, fragrance but was lacking of spiciness.
Taste: 2.8/5
Ice Kacang -
Average local dessert where you can get it in hawker or food court.
Taste: 1/5
Food: 2/5
Ambiance: Noisy Ambience
Service: 2/5

My Verdict:
The food was decent but the curry chicken is the must-try-dish! It was really good. The coffee and tea was just average.
