3 Days 2 Nights at Tanjung Balai

Back to Tanjung Balai for a short getaway with my parent!! This time round we went there for 3 days!! Tanjung Balai is a small island in Indonesia.




We checked in Holiday Karimun Hotel, the hotel is just beside the ferry terminal. Holiday Karimun Hotel was ranked No.2 in this small island.

A room by myself!! A room with 2 bed, 1 Tv, and a bath room.

The hotel restaurant morning buffet only served fried rice and fried noodle!! 

The fried rice was SUPER NORMAL!!

Fried Noodle -

I think i cook better than the chef. This plate of tasteless noodle is the worst dish that i ate during this whole trip.

    Local Wet Market: 






We took their local bus to the wet market from our hotel. Each person fare cost 2500 Rupees.

Found a Well nearby. 




We went for a massage nearby the wet market. 

Waiting area - 

The massage room look so BAD!! The massage was just alright. We pay 11500 Rupees for each person. 


Foodie Time - 

This was what we ate over this 3 days trip!!

1. Ya Cai Bak Kut Teh.






Bak Kut Teh - 

The herbal broth was fragrance, smooth and rich. It very different from SG. The pork ribs was very soft and tender. 

Taste: 4/5

Stir Fried Mixed Intestines -

It consisted off Pig small, big intestines, stomach, liver, pig blood cake, minced meat, pork meat ball, and lean meat. 

Taste wise was good, the sauce tasted like soy sauce. The ingredients was fresh and well blended with the sauce. 

Taste: 3/5

Pig Blood Cake - 

The broth was same as the pork ribs soup. The pig blood cake was so good. It tasted like pig liver but in jelly form. 

Taste: 3/5 

Sambal Kangkong - 

The sambal was really good, it was not just fragrance it was also very spicy. It is better than SG version. 

Taste: 4/5

Total Bill: 130000 Rupiah Including 3 can of drink.  

Food: 3.25/5

2. Taison Coffee Shop. 


Char Kway Tiao - 

We stopped by cause of the char kway tiao smell. The char kway tiao was really good, they served with Sausage, beansprouts, veggie, mini prawn and cucumber. The wok tasted was strong, the sauce was really good, it was a salty version of char kway tiao. 

Taste: 3.5/5

Teh-O -

The black tea was really fragrance and smooth. It is one of the best black tea in Balai. 

Taste: 4.5/5

Total Bill: 37000 rupiah. 

3. Kuali Apoh. 

The stall not only sell black mee, they also sell tze char like singapore but they don't have Seafood. 


Black Mee - 9500 rupiah

The famous black mee in Balai. It was like char kway tiao but no kway tiao only mee. The sauce was sweet but it was acceptable. Actually it was quite addictive, I think one plate will be enough if not i will get sick of it. 

Taste: 3/5

4. Kopi Time. 


Teh-0 

The black tea was good, it was fragrance and smooth. 

Taste: 4/5

Kopi- 

The coffee was just average. 

Taste: 2/5 

Egg Prata -

The egg and plain prata tasted just normal. 

Taste: 1/5 

Plain Prata -

The sauce was good. The Curry was spicy and fragrance. The chilli actually is sweet. The sauces make up for the bad prata. 

Taste: 2/5



Fish Soup - 

We ordered fish soup too but forgot took a solo shot of it.  

The fish soup tasted good. The broth was very fresh, smooth, rich aroma from the fish. The fish was very fresh, soft and tender. The texture is like melt in your mouth. 

Taste: 3.5/5

Food: 2/5


5. Street Food.
This small road stall selling satay. 

Chicken Satay - 1750 rupiah per stick 

The chicken satay was very dry and not much taste. 

Taste: 0/5


The sauce was lacking of some flavor as it was quite bland too. 


6. Natal Nusantara NO134. 
Another shop selling prata again.



Plain Prata - 1900 Rupiah

Egg Prata - 7700 Rupiah

The plain and egg prata is better than the previous stall that i ate. The prata is more crispy and flavorful. The curry sauce was good too as it was spicy and creamy.

7. Mini Night Market. 


Char Kway Tiao -

This char kwat tiao was very tasteless!! Can tell from the color of it. 

Taste: 0/5 

Sambal Kangkong -

The sambal kangkong wasn't even spicy not fragrance. The sambal was very watery and salty. The veggie wasn't that fresh too. 

Taste: 0/5 

Bbq Fish - 

I don't know what is this fish call but it was just a normal red fish. The fish was fresh but it has a lot of bones in it. The chilli on top of it was quite bland too. 

Taste: 1/5 

Food: 0/5

I think night market food can't buy!! Total Bill: 125000 Rupiah

8. Liang Teh Buang Pagus Dalam. 

We stopped  by and drink some liang teh. The liang teh was cold even it was pour from the container. The taste was just normal, it was lacking of herbal. 

Drink: 0.5/5

9. Dingtea. 

We was very surprised to saw a popular taiwan bubble tea shop over there. Cause it was quite a ulu isiland!! I heard from the local over here, this bubble tea shop is very famous in Indonesia. 





Pudding Milk Tea - 2600 Rupiah 

It was super cheap compare to SGD. The milk tea tasted the same as in SG. You can't find any milk tea in Balai, i searched a few place for it but couldn't find, this is the only stall sell milk tea and bubble tea. 

Drink: 3/5

10. Lucky Donut. 




Coffee Donut - 3500 Rupiah

I rather eat a plain bread than eating this donut. It was too sweet and the coffee aroma wasn't there at all!!

Taste: 0/5

11. Street Food. 
Mee Soup - 8000 Rupiah

The broth was tasteless but the serving was really big. It served with chicken meat ball, beansprout, chicken meat and mee hoon. It just very normal. 

Taste: 0.5/5 

Fried mixed Wu Xiang - 19000 Rupiah 

I ordered fried tofu, popiah, prawn cracker, otah and fish cake. 

All the items very normal but it was good. The popiah was my favourite as it was very crispy and savory. 

Taste: 2/5 


The chilli sauce was good it was spicy and a tad sour. 

Cheng Teng - 9500 Rupiah 

The Cheng Teng served with longan, grass jelly, sweet corn, sweet potato, and two more items that i don't know what is it called. It tasted good. It was not too sweet and it was really refreshing. A good dessert after having a oily food. 

Taste: 3/5
