Cafe Review: Gastro Smiths Bistro and Bakery

16:34:00

Gastrosmiths is an evolution from a previous establishment known as The Humble Loaf, located at B1 of Katong Shopping Centre occupying a mere 250 sqft of space.
The Humble Loaf had previously mainly offered simple but delectable sandwiches, cakes and coffee. Despite its low-profiled location, under a year from its opening, the cafe was proving to be too small to handle its new-found popularity. Hence, the main proponents for an expansion to Gastrosmiths were the size constraint as well as the desire to move up and offer a full dining menu to customers. Therefore a new corner frontage location along Beach Road and Tan Quee Lan St, offering almost 1,000sqft of built up space and another 300sqft of Alfresco seating, was simply too attractive to pass up.
Gastrosmiths’ key foundations of its food offerings follows that of The Humble Loaf, where dishes and desserts are all made fresh, from the ground up, with self-inspired concoctions. Its cuisine is derived from the various gastronomic experiences available internationally and cross-culturally, with a slant towards French, Italian and Japanese influences.
They also strive and pride themselves to ensure that these creations can be easily enjoyed by people from all walks of life.

200G Onglet Steak - $25.50

Pomee Puree, herb salad, Veal Jus.

The 200G Onglet Steak was well cooked to perfect. The beef was fresh, tender, and well seasoned. The Veal Jus was well prepared as it combined well with the steak.

Taste: 3/5

Lychee Ice - $11.50

Lychee, granita, lime, lemon tea jelly, pineapple.

It was an creative dish as they used french parsley in it. Hardly anyone used parsley for dessert. But they succeed it as the dessert was good, it was refreshing and tangy.

Taste: 3.5/5

 G.S Apple - $12.50

Compressed apples, brown butter cake, oatmeal almond granola, apple clouds.

It was an amazing dish! Every bite, you will get a different textures from the ingredients. It was refreshing and is a good dessert to end with it.

Valrhona Lava Cake - $14.50

I am a big fan of Lava Cake, i always hunt for a good lava cake but currently i can't find any that was perfect yet. But this lava cake was good. the molten lava cakes was oozing out and it was rich, creay and chocolaty. The serving of vanilla bean ice cream helped to counteract a little of the richness.

Taste: 3.5/5

Food: 3.5/5
Ambiance: 3.5/5
Service: 4/5

Overall, the dessert was really good although the price was slight pricey but i wouldn't mind. Service was good and attentive and the vibe in the restaurant was pretty nice and cozy.
