Hawker Hopping: Tampines Round Market and Food Centre x Bedok Interchange Hawker Centre x Albert Centre Market and Food Centre

15:08:00

Hawker Hopping was fun and cheap too. It was even more fun when you hop with your foodies friends, This week i will be hopping to tampines round market and food centre for breakfast. All the food i will be review are either recommended by friends or there was a long queue so i queued for it too.

1. Song Han Carrot Cake.

Carrot Cake White - $2.50

It was good. The cake is chopped roughly so that there are big and small pieces. The big pieces allow you to enjoy the soft texture of the cake and the flavour of the radishes while the smaller pieces get charred quickly so that you get to enjoy the crispy charred crust.

Taste: 3/5

2. Yummy Sarawak Kolo Mee.

Signature Sarawak Kuching Kolo Mee - $4.00

Served with braished pork rib, char siew, steamed dumpling, wantons, fried wanton and kolo mee.

The kolo noodles are cooked, drained and dry-tossed with the different sauces, hence the name “kolo” was given. These noodles are only made of egg white, hence they are lighter in shade. But it is very fragrant! It was realy good.

Taste: 3.5/5

3. 137 Lor Mee Prawn Mee.
Lor Mee - $3

The lor is thick and concentrated, not starchy and gooey. . The topping is simple – braised pork, fish and fried ngoh hiang. They provide sambal too as it will spice up your taste.

Taste:  2/5

4.  Xing Yun Kway Chap.

Kwap Chap - $3.50 ( for 1 person)

The braising stock is mildly savoury sweet, so we can taste the natural sweetness of the pork. The pig intestine is more tender and spongy.

The new hawker centre will feature the Wireless@SG service, as well as fully wired up such that stalls can choose to offer payment by the contactless Nets FlashPay card.
The Health Promotion Board will work with hawkers at the 70 stalls to see how their traditional recipes can be tweaked to be healthier, for instance using different oils and whole grains. These healthier versions can then be offered alongside the original dishes.

1. Song Zhou Luo Bo Gao.

Black Carrot Cake - $2.50

Awesome fried carrot cake at the old Bedok Interchange Hawker Centre. It's moist with some char crispy parts, yet you can taste the crunchiness of fried raddish (cai poh). We no longer waste our calories on mediocre fried carrot cake! Seriously not to be missed.

Taste: 4/5

2. Bedok Chee Kueh.
Chee Kueh - $2 (for 8 pieces)

One of the best Vegetable Oil Chee Kueh in the east. Join the queue, it moves swiftly and the food is worth the while. It arrives hot and fragrant.

Taste: 2.3/5

3. Poh Kee Wanton Mee.
Wanton Mee - $3

Decent but nothing fantastic, noodles towards the soft, dense instead of springy side.. Wanton skin smooth but meat didn't taste fresh.

Taste: 1/5

4. Zhong Xin Ban Mian.
Ban Mian - $3.50

The soup to be a little bland initially, but the flavours started to come out after letting the bowl sit for a while. The texture of the noodles was soft, perhaps slightly too soft for me towards the end. Not the most satisfying bowl out there.

Taste: 2.5/5

5. Hock Hai Curry Chicken Noodle.
Curry Chicken Noodle - $4

I find the curry chicken noodle was below-par. The curry was very salty and not spicy and fragrance. The chicken was tender but nothing special. The potato was hard instead of soft and only had 1 piece. It was a failed dish as the main thing (Curry) was fail, everything fail as well.

Having lunch with my mum after praying at albert centre. It is located opposite bugis village and it was really crowed during lunch time. Most of the stalls has long queue so we decided to choose some of them and try!!

1. 百年 Yong Tau Foo.
 Yong Tau Foo - $4

This is a must try Yong Tau Foo stall. Ingredients are standard and you do not get to choose like every else does. No fish balls or bean curds. Only freshly own made minced pork cakes, prawn cakes, ngor hiang, bitter gourd. Serves only in soup or with Bee Hoon. I enjoyed it very much because everything tastes so fresh! Apart from the yummy springy prawn balls, the meat patty, plus stuffing for the beancurd skin rolls and bittergourd seem to be a tasty combination of fish with pork. I slurped up every drop of their soup, so clear and sweet it was with plenty of minutely chopped spring onions.

Taste: 4/5

2. Heng Heng Fishball Noodles.
Heng Heng Bar Chor Mee - $3

The portion of noodles given was huge; a whole chunk! The noodles was topped with pork lard and spring onion to increase the fragrance.  The noodles was very disappointing as it was overcooked. The bowl of soup chocked full of ingredients fared better. They are very generous with their ingredients such as meatball, fish cakes and also minced meat. The soup was laden with MSG.

Taste: 1/5

3. Bak Kut Teh • Ipoh Hor Fun.

Char Siew Horfun - $3

This stall is unique as it offers both Bak Kut Teh and Ipoh Hor Fun. It was served with many pieces of char siew, vegetables, fried wanton and lots of hor fun. The char siew was pretty normal same does to other ingredients. The gravy was pleasantly flavourful with the right amount of starch.
