18:23:00

Let's cut the crap and being with this week hawker hopping.

1. Deep Fried Carrot Cake.
Carrot Cake Sticks - $2 for 16 Sticks

Old-school and so good! That "q" feel and that crisp exterior is just perfect!

Taste: 2.75/5

2. Beach Road Fish Head Bee Hoon.
Sliced Fish Bee Hoon - $3

It was really good, the flavor of the fish broth was really clean, not even remotely fishy in a bad way.  The noodles were excellent and really complemented the broth.  The pieces of fish were perfectly cooked, the meat was perfectly flaky and delicious. The vegetables and fried onions were a good complement as well and didn’t overpower the soup at all.

Taste: 3/5

3. Singapore Fried Hokkien Mee.
 Hokkien Mee - $3

The thick bee hoon is used in this rendition, and it also turns slightly gooey once cooled down a little. Love that they also give cut green chillies and chili padi here.

Taste: 2.5/5

4. Joo Chiat Famous Ah jiu Wanton Mee.
 Wanton Mee - $2.50

The stall has been around for more than 30 over years. The wanton mee was chewy and not soggy as what you usually experienced from many of the wanton mee stalls. Besides the quality of the mee, the base-sauce very much decides the fate of the dish, mixture of chili, soy sauce, oil and other ingredients, the credence from the sauce directly affect the taste of the mee and Ah Jiu wanton mee has scored well in this aspect.

Taste: 2.5/5

5. Ah Hock Fried Oyster.
Fried Oyster Omelette - $4

Crispiest and tastiest orh luak with fresh and juicy oysters. One of the few best fried oyster omelette that i ever tried.

Taste: 4/5

Taste: 2.5/5

2. Lai Fa Carrot Cake.
 Black Carrot Cake - $2.50

The radish cake is diced into small cubes and well coated with the dark sweet sauce with a generous topping of eggs. The fragrant fried carrot cake comes with bites of aromatic charred on the radish cake giving it a nice sweet bitterness.

Taste: 3.5/5

3. Toa Payoh Scissor Cut Curry Rice 大巴窑剪刀剪咖喱饭.

1. RedHill Hong Guang BBQ Seafood.
 BBQ Stingray - $12

The BBQ Stingray was not bad. The sambal chilli spread was spicy and fragrant while the Stingray was tender, soft and more importantly fresh.

Taste: 2.5/5

2. Alhambra Padang Satay.
 Satay Set (Chicken) - $7

The meats were well marinated and didn’t require the equally excellent satay sauce.

Taste: 2/5

3. Huat Huat BBQ Chicken Wings and Carrot Cake.
BBQ Chicken Wings - $1.50 per wings

BBQ Chicken Wings were tender and succulent. I love the charred parts especially those near the tail end of the wings. The natural flavour was not brought out and it lacked the fragrant aroma which is the hallmark of a well-executed piece of BBQ Chicken Wing. The chilli sauce provided was quite good and played the perfect role as a dipping sauce.

Taste: 3.5/5

4. Hup Kee Fried Oyster Omelette.
 Fried Oyster Omelette - $5

The batter was crispy with slight chewy bite was not oily at all.It was fried to almost as perfect as Orh Luak can be done. The Oyster were big juicy, lightly touched fried .The sourness of the chilly was very well balanced.

Taste: 3.5/5

5. Soon Lee Fried Hokkien Mee.
Fried Hokkien Mee - $4

Hokkien Prawn Mee is fragrant and more towards the wet side. It also serves really nice chilli, thus they’d charge additional 50 cents if you ask for more.

Taste: 2/5
