Food Review: Blk 284 Bishan Coffee Shop Kwap Chap x Kin Kin Chilli Me

13:12:00

What is Kway Chap?
A Teochew dish of flat, broad rice sheets in a soup made with dark soy sauce, served with pig parts (small/big intestines, stomach, skin...etc), braised duck meat, various kinds of beancurd, preserved salted vegetables, and braised hard-boiled eggs. This Kway Chap stalls located at Blk 284 Bishan Coffee shop was my favourite, i had been eating it since i was young.

Kway -

The kueh is nicely cooked to a smooth and silky texture and the soup is light and tasty, garnished with dry shallots.

What we order?

Pig Intestine, Tau Pok, Tofu, Braised Pork Belly, and Braised Egg x 2.

The toufu is cooked with the right softness, the tau pok is spongey and soft, the eggs firm with nice coloring. Pig intestines! This is not an easy to cook dish, because sometimes its overcooked and gets too tough and chewy, or it is not clean well, and there's a weird smell/taste to it. This stall cooks it perfectly, where its springy, smooth and succulant!

The popular Kin Kin Chilli Pan Mee from Kuala Lumpur opens at MacPherson.  Kin Kin was originally from Kuala Lumpur and had three outlets under the name of Restoran Kin Kin. It was selling at 7rm (S$2.80) a bowl in Malaysia and it’s best known for it’s pan fried chilli and the half boiled runny yolk.

Signature Dry Chilli Pan Mee - $5

The famed ban mian was mixed with minced meat, crispy ikan bilis, fried scallion, meatballs, tossed with their signature special formulated slow-roasted dry chilli flakes, and topped with a poached egg. The handmade noodle is not the soft and soggy kind. It’s a little firmer which makes it enjoyable to chew on. Kin Kin also added Pork Lard as part of the recipe to enhance the overall the taste. a few scoops of this chilli magically elevated the overall flavor by more than a few notches. The chilli is the Bomb!

The Soup was tasteless!!

Overall, the chilli pan mee is overall a satisfying bowl of noodles. Delicious indeed. It is worth a try!!
