Food Review: Beach Road Prawn Mee vs Blanco Court Prawn Mee

06:10:00

Beach Road Prawn Noodle House at East Coast has been around since 1986, serving a recipe that has been passed down in owner Lee Chee Wee's family for generations. Beach Road Prawn Mee Eating House occupies 2 shop-houses along East Coast Road. It is a no frill coffee shop with plastic chairs but it is clean an airy. The eating house has 2 stalls, the prawn noodles stall which also sells drinks, and a ngoh hiang stall.

Iced Teh - $1.50

Iced Homemade Barley - $1.50

Jumbo Prawn Noodle - $10.80

It was served with Jumbo prawns, bean sprouts, and yellow noodle,  the prawn broth was infused with seafood sweetness. It was more neutral and balanced in taste, neither too rich, nor too fishy or salty. The prawn was huge and fresh!! The soup is very addictive.

Taste: 4.5/5

Prawn and pork ribs noodle - $5.80

It was served with medium prawns, bean sprouts, pork ribs and yellow noodle. The pork ribs was very tender and soft. The texture was as close as it melted in your mouth.

Taste: 4.5/5

Food: 4.5/5
Ambiance: N.A
Service: 2/5

Overall, it was very good!! Highly recommended by me and lots of food bloggers too. Now i can understand why some may park illegally just so that they can to savour this bowl of prawn mee.

Having moved from Xiamen to Singapore, this humble looking eatery had been serving its customers since 1928. The traditional rendition of prawn noodles from Xiamen is the classic version that is soup-based. However due to the need to cater to the needs of their Tibetan customers back then, the dry version was created. Ngor hiang (sausage-esque roll filled with minced pork and prawn seasoned with 5 spices powder) had been a partnering appetizer to the prawn noodles here and seemed almost like a tradition to order it together with some classic guang chiang (pink pork sausage), crispy prawn crackers and yam fritters while waiting for the prawn noodles to be served.

Lime Juice - $1.50

Home Made Barley - $1.50

Prawn Noodle - $5.80

It was served with bean sprout, kang kong, pork lard and few shrimp. The prawns were fresh, firm meat that can be easily de-shelled. The broth was rich and tasty flavour with umami taste from the prawns. Moreover, the broth is not oily.

Taste: 3/5

Prawn Noodle (Dry) - $5.80

It was served with bean sprout, kang kong, pork lard and few shrimp, the chilli sauce wasn't spicy at all. The soup version was much more better.

Taste: 1.5/5

Soup -

The soup they give was extremely little!!

Ngoh Hiang - $6.80 (7 items)

Sauces -

Food: 2.8/5
Ambiance: N.A
Service: 1.5/5

Overall, Beach Road Prawn Mee is my favourite and is the prawn mee i eaten so far. Anyone else has any recommendations on where the best prawn noodle stall in Singapore is? It is worth a visit for both prawn mee stalls.
