Food Review: Cheng Mun Chee Kee Pig Prgan Soup x Old Hen Coffee

08:13:00

Fans of pig's organ soup head over in droves to Cheng Mun Chee Kee on Foch Road, an under-the-radar stall just a five minute walk away is quietly counter-claiming its authenticity.

According to stall owner Wyen Tai, in her mid-40s, the original Mun Chee Kee dates back to the 1960s, when it was run as an itinerant hawker business. The people behind it would often peddle their pig's offal soup from the exact spot where her Lavender Food Square stall stands today - though it was an open-air hawker street back then.

But the partners of Chee Mun Kee soon fell into dispute, she recalls, with one leaving to set up the Cheng Chee Mun Kee on Foch Road ("Cheng" means authentic in Chinese). The other passed on the Lavender Food Square stall to his brother-in-law, who operated the stall until Madam Tai bought over the business half a year ago.

Pig Organ Soup - $6

The noticeably salted vegetables based broth was masterly boiled to have a light consistency that was not overly salty! The ingredient they give was very generous!

Taste: 3/5

Pig Trotter Vinegar - $5

This pig trotter vinegar was too sour for us to consume it! The meat was quite tough too. And the skin never clean properly as it still some hair in it.

Taste: 0/5

Salted fish meat patty - $5

The meat patty was very soft, as it melted in your mouth texture!! But i don;t really like the taste, i feel that the salted fish aroma was too strong as it smell like "Rubbish bin". Maybe it just not my cup of tea! But my friend love it so i will give the rating as she gave!

Taste: 3.5/5

南乳罗汉斋 - $3

The luo han zai was sweet, crunchy without that disgusting chemical taste and pungency i often get from the canned version.

Taste: 2.5/5

Food: 1.8/5

Ambiance: NA (Hawker Environment)
Service: 1/5

Overall, I prefer the another pig organ soup stall that just located 5 min away from them. This soup wasn't as good as other!!

Old Hen Coffee Bar is a cafe that’s situated along Rangoon Road. The name itself is quite interesting. I was never a fan of cold brew, but that life changing experience at Old Hen Coffee Bar. The best cold brew coffee i ever had so far!! No wonder everyone is enjoying it and even buy back home and enjoy it.

 Cold Brew (White) - $6.50

Old Hen is known for their awesome cold brews, which made it a no-brainer to try at least one of them. It was superbly creamy. The lower levels of caffeine and its acidity may put off some caffeine lovers but I was very well satisfied with this milky version. With that said, this can be a good try even for non-coffee drinkers.

Dark Chocolate - $6.50

Normal.

Coffee: 5/5
Ambiance: 3/5
Service: 3/5

Overall, the cold brew coffee is worth the many try and share!! I will be back for more!
