JB Food Review: Dragon-I
08:14:00Inspired by the rich and diverse culinary offerings from China, especially from the regions of Shanghai, Szechuan, Beijing and Lanzhou, Dragon-i Restaurant Sdn Bhd, was established in 2004.
Shortly after, the first Dragon-i outlet opened at Mid Valley Megamall, offering signature dishes such as xiao long bao (Shanghainese steamed meat dumplings) and la mian (hand-pulled noodles), traditional dishes proudly preserved by the Chinese over thousand of years.
Each delicacy is prepared by highly-skilled chefs from mainland China using top quality ingredients to ensure authenticity in both presentation and taste.
The name of the restaurant in Chinese, ‘LONG TI CHUAN REN’, is derived from a combination of phonetics and facts. Historically, the Chinese are referred to as the descendants of the Dragon (LONG), pronounced as the name of the restaurant. However, the strokes for the character ‘LONG’ represent that of the restaurant’s signature delicacy, the xiao ‘long’ bao. This is more than mere coincidence and aptly conveys the significance of serving authentic cuisine from ancient China.
Started off the meal with a pot of chrysanthemum wolf-berry tea. It's good for health, it can cure sore throat, and headache.
The first dish served to our table was the fried slated bean-curd cube. The bean-curd was fried to golden brown, it was crispy on the outside and was super soft on the inside. It wasn't that salty too, the taste was just perfect.
Next, we are having Liu Sha Bao, but this liu sha bao was very disappointing, the custard (Salted egg yolks sauce) in it wasn't that flavorful and it doesn't even have the salted egg aroma! Not recommended.
Xiao long bao, a must order dish whenever you visit a Cantonese or China cuisine restaurant! The texture of the skin was a little too thick for my liking, the golden broth in it was slightly bland and the minced pork was hardly to be seen!
One Soup Bao, the name was directly translated from the Chinese syllabus! I guess their English wasn't that good, oops. Basically what they mean was, this dish actually a soup dish that are wrapped in the dough! The broth tasted quite unique, it has a weird sourish and bitter taste, it wasn't the type of soup that i will like.
Dumpling in chili broth - the dumpling was filled with a huge and juicy prawn along with some vegetable in it. The chili sauce was spicy and flavorful. The spicy lover will surely like it.
Cold Wine Chicken, it was served as a appetizer dish, it supposed to be eaten first then the other dishes as this dish is to open up your appetite. The chicken meat was tender and flavorful. The chicken has adsorbed the full flavor of the Chinese wine. Don't worry you won't get drunk by having this dish!
Signature Shanghai La-mian - served with fried pork cutlet. This dish was surprising good. The broth was light and sweet. You can simply drink few bowls of it. The noodle was springy, chewy and smooth. The best la-mian that i have eaten in JB.
The fried pork cutlet wasn't that tough to what i had expected. The skin was really crispy while the meat was chewy and firm. The saltiness was just perfect.
Grandma braised pork belly - It was served in a hot-pot. I expected this dish to be a savoury dish, but it surprised me with a super tasteless gravy! This dish is lacking of flavors. Not recommended!
Ending the meal with a good bowl of dessert! Durian sago, the durian came in a big creamy chunk. The durian aroma was super strong not like other restaurant where they served their durian sago that the durian aroma hardly to be tasted. It was a good dessert and everyone should give it a try.
Food: 2.3/5
Ambiance: 1.5/5
Service: 2.5/5
My Verdict:
I enjoyed my food experience at Dragon-I. The food was decent but it was slightly pricey but it definitely worth it.
