4 Best Curry Fish Head in Singapore

Fish head curry is a dish in Singaporean and Malaysian cuisine with Indian and Chinese origins. The head of a red snapper is semi-stewed in a Kerala-style curry with assorted vegetables such as okra and eggplants. It is usually served with either rice or bread, or as a shared dish.

There are two versions — the Chinese take that features a milder Assam curry, and the Indian style that comprises of a robust curry made with various spices.



Today, i am going to share my top 4 must-try fish head curry stalls in Singapore!


1. The Banana Leaf Apolo.

The ancient tradition of serving food on a freshly cut Banana leaf has its roots in India. Here in Singapore, the widely popular practice of eating from a banana leaf can be traced back to The Banana Leaf Apolo. The Banana Leaf Apolo has been serving its food on a banana leaf to patrons since it opened its doors in 1974. The fresh and huge fish head is submerged in a robust curry stew along with assorted vegetables including okra and eggplants. The thick and spicy curry gravy is best go along with a bowl of rice. They are serving free flow of rice. Good for those big eater.

2. Gu Ma Jia Food Pot.


Gu Ma Jia endeavours to serve delectable home cooked food inspired by the recipes that Gu Ma herself utilizes at home. Their signature Assam Fish Head ($28) that comprises of fresh fish head selected daily from the wet market and a homemade assam paste made with over 13 herbs and spices. Gu Ma cooks the fish together with the gravy, resulting in a light gravy which flavour is enhanced by the natural sweetness of the fish.

3. Seafood and Wuxiang Tze Char.

The hidden gem that my friend introduced me. This curry fish head was one of the nicer in a tze char stalls. Seafood and Wuxiang Tze Char is located at Bras Basah Complex, coffee shop. It famous for their curry fish head. The thick and mild spicy curry gravy was good enough for us to coming back for more. The fish they using are red snapper.

4. Samy's Curry.


As one of the oldest Indian restaurants situated along Dempsey Road, Samy's Curry Restaurant might look inconspicuous. The taste is not too shabby either and will definitely leave you feeling entirely satisfied.
