Food Review: Bao Today包今天 x Kok Kee Wanton Mee

13:32:00

Bao Today was established in 2005 as a Dim Sum café with one intention to introduce, if not popularize one of the traditional Chinese cuisine, the Bao(bun) – alongside a variety of Dim Sum delights. More importantly, it was to make this cuisine available to the masses and freshly made everyday.

Dim Sum chefs work hard to produce fresh and handmade baos and dim sum daily for the enjoyment of the customers, and though they left their homeland of Hong Kong, they did not leave behind the culture of their roots. Using an assortment of ingredients, they concoct both very traditional as well as very special distinct flavors of baos, tinkling your sensations to a new height.

The interior design of Bao Today is in line with the current café hopping trend and in line with the Singapore city lifestyle.

 Promotion -

 Iced Milk Tea - $1.80

Milk tea aroma wasn't strong and wasn't thick enough.

Taste: 0.75/5

 Carrot Cake - $3

The carrot cake wasn't well fried as it wasn't crispy on the outer surface. The inner was soft and moist   but the carrot cake aroma wasn't strong!!

Taste: 1/5

 Bao Today - $3

It was good. The flowy custard was a wow factor which is absolutely essential. If it ain’t flowing, it ain’t custard buns. The buns arrived steaming hot, and the buns were extremely soft. The custard itself was nothing short of amazing. It was burning hot, not oily at all, and most importantly it nailed the balance of salty and sweet.

Taste: 3.25/5

 Wanton Mee - $6.80

The noodle was just average. The sauce was sweet but nothing else. Was expecting something special about it.. The char siew was a FAIL!! The fried dumpling was good, it was well fried and the filling was meaty and savory.

Taste: 1/5

The wanton soup was very bland!! The wanton was good but i still prefer the fried version.

Taste: 0.5/5

 Braised Pork Bun - $3

The braised pork bun was very mini and the bun texture was quite tough and wasn't hot enough. The braised pork was good but it was too little.

Taste: 1/5

 Steamed Pork Ribs - $4

The steamed pork ribs was really good!! The pork ribs was well steamed and was very tender. The sauce was savory and addictive.

Taste: 3/5

 Century Pork Congee - $6.80

The congee was plain and very sticky. The ingredient was very pathetic.

Taste: 0.5/5

Food: 0.75/5
Ambiance: 2/5
Service: 2/5

Overall, Bao today served average Dim Sum, only suitable for a quick meal but not for good dim sum fix.

I feel that this wanton mee was really overrated!! The special sauce was too sweet for my liking. The chilli sauce wasn't even spicy at all!! The char siew and wanton was pretty normal.

Taste: 1/5

 Fried Wanton - $7

The fried wanton was very normal nothing special about it!!

Taste: 1/5
