Food Review: Hill Street Coffee Shop x Ipoh Lou Yau Bean Sprouts Chicken

15:04:00

The name Hill Street originated as it was situated at the bottom of the Government Hill, now Fort Canning Hill. Located near the port and in Xiao Po of early Singapore, Hill Street witnessed the hustle and bustle of early Singapore. Till date, Hill Street houses some of Singapore’s oldest gazette national monuments such as Armenian Church, The Central Fire Station and The Old Hill Street Police Station. Other icons include, Coleman Bridge, Stamford House and Stamford Court.

Kopi - $1.80

The kopi was average. The coffee aroma wasn't strong enough and it wasn't that smooth nor bitter enough.

Taste: 1/5

Iced Milo - $2.50

Normal.

Soft Boiled Egg - $1.40 (2 eggs)

The egg was slightly over boiled.

Steamed Peanut-Butter Bread x Steamed Kaya Butter Bread - $1.80/ 1 slices

The steamed bread was just normal. The jam that they spread on the bread is SUPER LITTLE, as like never put at all!!

A set of toast cost $4.70, it come with a cup of coffee/tea, 2 eggs and 1 slices of bread.

Taste: 1/5

Food: 0.5/5
Ambiance: 1.5/5
Service: NA

Overall, the food was very normal. I would rather go TOASTBOX than come here for breakfast.

Ipoh Bean Sprouts Chicken, a dish synonymous with Ipoh, an old town in Malaysia. Affectionately known as ‘Nga Choi Gai’ in Cantonese to the food enthusiasts, Ipoh’s signature dish is famous among the locals and well-travelled foodies from different parts of the world. The secret for its fame and popularity lies in the originality and fresh, locally grown ingredients that looks deceivingly simple, yet distinctly scrumptious.

Kampong Chicken - ($9.50 for 2, $19.90 for half, $39.90 for whole)

The chicken was overcooked as it was quite hard and it wasn't soft and tender. The bean sprouts was crunchy and fresh but it doesn't help much in it. The main thing of the dish ruin everything.

Taste: 0.5/5

Ipoh Hor Fun - $4.50

The ipoh hor fun wasn't that fantastic too as the gravy was very bland.

Taste: 0.5/5

Food: 0/5
Ambiance: NA
Service: 1/5

Overall, this kampong chicken rice doesn't worth the money. I would rather go normal food court and eat than come here and have their chicken rice.
