11:47:00

Jthejon food hunting being!!
This food hunting trip I'll be hunting for Thai Cuisine.

My first stop will be at, Siam Society.

Siam Society founded by two brothers who love to eat thai food but find that most of the thai food found locally have been too toned down to suit local taste. In order to bring authentic tasting thai food to Singaporeans, the two brothers decided to start Siam Society and their instruction to the chefs is "cook like how you will cook for the thais".

However, the two brothers are fun loving individuals who are not bounded by traditions, norms or what say you (in another word, constantly thinking out of the box) and they have decided to add some modern twist to the thai food while preserving the authentic taste.

Thai Iced Tea - $3.90

It was pretty good. The Thai Iced Tea was rich, strong tea aroma, not too milky and sweetness was just right.

Phat Thai - $9.90

It was pretty average. The phat thai was a little bit dry and bland. I felt that it was lacking of something but i not sure what was it. It can be better.

Tom Yum Seafood Soup - $10.90

Seafood varieties flavoured with fragrance lemongrass, fresh gaangal root and kaffir lime leaf.

The tom yum soup was good, It was sour and spicy. The spiciness kick start when after a few mouths.  The broth was sour, spicy, and flavorful. The amount of seafood was very generous served by them.

Basil Chicken - $11.90

Minced meat gently mixed with basil, chilli and Thai fish sauce.

The basil chicken was fantastic. I can finish this dish by own. The basil chicken was sweet, spicy and flavorful. It's a must-order dish.

Belacan Morning Glory - $8.90

It was an simple dish but not everyone can get it perfect. The Belacan Morning Glory spiciness was right and it was fresh and savoury.

Red Ruby - $4.90

Water chestnut mixed with jackfruit and coconut milk,

It was good. The sweetness was perfect, the ingredient was fresh and crunchy. It was refreshing too.

Food: 4.25/5

Ambiance: 4.5/5
Service: 4/5

Overall, the food was really fantastic. I have been visiting Siam Society often and the Thai food never failed to impress me. I really like the ambiance over there, the ambiance was relaxed and chill-out, and it’s definitely a place to go to hangout with family or friends over a yummy meal! Price was reasonable enough.

Thai Iced Milk Tea - $3

It was pretty bad. I felt like the milk tea was made from instant packaging milk tea. The milk tea taste weird to me.

Phad Thai Seafood - $7

The phad thai wasn't that good. It was a little bit sweet and oily. I felt that their phad thai was a bit like "Asian Char Kway Tiao" to me, the taste definitely don't taste like phad thai.

Tom Yum Seafood Clear Soup - $7

It wasn't that fantastic but it was okay. The broth was spicy, tangy and flavorful. But the ingredients wasn't that fresh.

Prawn meat omelette - $7

The omelette was good, it wasn't that oily, it was savoury and crispy.

Steamed Tofu with Beef Basil - $8

It was awful!! The sauce tasted a bit like "SIchuan ma la" . The sauce was super bad. Didn't manage to finish 1/3 of it.

Fried Kang Kong - $6

It was an decent kang kong. The kang kong sauce was a little bit watery and not spicy enough.

Food: 0.5/5

Ambiance: 2.5/5
Service: 2/5

Overall, the food was really bad, this was definitely not an authentic thai food. I felt that this is like a local chinese "Tze char" food to me. The service was quite bad too. The service staffs was a bit rude and impatient. I don't really recommend you guys to visit this Thai food restaurant.

Ofira Amazing Thai Food is located at the popular Far East plaza basement. It gathers lots of crowd during lunch/dinner time. And on weekends the place was very crowed.

Iced Barley/Thai Milktea - $1.80 each

Iced barley was sweet and smooth.

Thai milktea was a little bit disappointing, the thai milktea doesn't tasted like Thai milktea to me, instead it tasted like normal milk tea to me.

Green curry chicken - $5

The Green curry was very disappointing, it doesn't tasted like green curry!! The green curry was SWEET and watery, it should be creamy and spicy. The meat was tender.

Tom Yum Seafood Soup - $5

It was pretty normal. The broth was spicy but it was a little bit bland. The ingredients was really pathetic, the ingredients was very little.

Food: 2.5/5

Ambiance: 2/5

PORN’S sexy.thai.food started simply because Pornsak misses the food from his hometown. Pornsak grew up in Thailand, is now a well-loved TV host in Singapore and travelled around the world in search of the freshest ingredients and most delicious recipe for his restaurant. Coupled with his thai heritage, Pornsak insists on serving the most authentic thai dishes at an affordable price.

Thai Iced Milk Tea

The thai milk tea was rich, strong tea aroma, and was really authentic.

Tom Yum Talay (Seafood)

The tom yum was fantastic. The broth was appetizing, spicy and tangy blend of ingredients. The broth was really addictive. The ingredients was fresh too.

Kapow Moo

Stir-fried minced pork with basil leaves

It was pretty good!! The minced pork was well stir-fried, the taste was flavorful, sweet, and savoury. The sauce was the key point of this dish. It would be a good complement with plain rice.

Food: 3/5
Ambiance: 3/5
Service: 3/5

Overall, the food was really good. Porn’s may be drawing in the crowd with its seductive name and star power, but it has proven that it is more than that. Everyone should visit at least once. Avoid going at meal hours as it will take up more than an hours for a table. Especially on the weekend.

Thai Iced Tea - $3

The thai iced tea was pretty normal.  Just a normal milk tea.

Pineapple Rice - $6

It was good. The pineapple rice was fragrant and tasty. But the amount of pineapple was really pathetic, can't even see a pineapple in the rice.

Tom Yum Seafood Soup - $8

The Clear Tom Yam Soup with Seafood was perfect for the rainy day. The broth wasn't spicy enough but it was good. Ingredients was fresh too.

Red Curry Prawn - $8

Red curry prawn was really good!! The red curry was sweet, creamy and spicy. The prawn was fresh and juicy. The prawn totally absorbed the curry.

Stir-fried kand kong belacan - $6

The kang kong was so so. The kang kong wasn't spicy enough but it was crunchy and tasty.

Food: 3/5

Sixth stop, Ah Loy Thai.

A hidden gem at Shaw Tower. The restaurant is constantly packed during peak meal hours so my advice is to arrive before the peak hours. Ah Loy Thai offers good and affordable Thai food in Singapore.

Thai iced milk red tea - $2.20

Average milk tea.

Butter Calamari - $8.50

It was pretty good!! The butter calamari is one of the signature dish at Ah Loy Thai. The butter calamari was fragrant, sweet and salty. And the calamari wasn't that rubbery to the extent where it would be hard to chew on.

Tom Yum Seafood - $7.50

It wasn't that good. The tom yum wasn't that spicy and sour. But it served pretty generous portion of prawns and mushrooms etc.

Fried Kang kong - $5.50

The kang kong was good, it was fragrant, crunchy, and not too oily. But it could be spicier. The portion was a little bit small.

Phad Thai - $7

The phad thai taste was good but it could be slightly spicier and it will be good. The serving is quite generous, recommended for sharing for 2 people.

Food: 3.25/5
Ambiance: 3/5
Service: 0.5/5

Overall, the food at Ah Loy Thai was affordable and homey. The service could be improve, the service here was really bad.

Thai Iced Milk Tea - $4.90

Pretty normal. The tea aroma wasn't strong enough and it wasn't thick enough.

Phat Thai Talay (Seafood) - $12.90

The phat thai was quite different from the authentic phat thai. It was pretty good, the phat thai was flavorful, sweet and salty. It wasn't oily too.

Kanom Pang Na Kung (Prawn Toast) - $8.90

It was average. The prawn toast was too oily for my like. But the taste was good but it wasn't spicy enough.

Massaman Beef Curry with Thai-style pancake - $12.90

The beef curry was really good. The beef curry was creamy, rich, fragrant, flavorful, spiciness was just right and not too oily. The beef was soft and tender. The pancake was a little bit soggy but the taste was alright.

Khao Niao Mamuang (Mango sticky rice) - $9.90

The sweet glutinous rice with fresh mango and coconut milk is one of the most Local favourite Thai dessert. The mango quality was really bad, it was not fresh and it was a bit soggy. The glutinous rice was awful too.
