Food Review: Go Local: Tze Char
16:17:00
Jthejon food hunt continue!!
I'll be doing local food review for this entry, and will be around Singapore for the best Tze Char.
Ubin Seafood’s beginnings can be traced to Pulau Ubin itself, where the restaurant opened in 1986 on the island’s north shore. There, it had the pleasure of serving up kampong-style seafood to all who visited Ubin’s shores, developing a reputation for serving fresh, authentic and delicious seafood in an laid-back and relaxing environment.
With acquisition of Pulau Ubin by the Singapore government in 1992, Ubin Seafood moved to the mainland, where we have been situated in several locations over the years (the most well known of which were the coffee shop at Commonwealth, Keppel Marina, Punggol Marina and finally the outlet at the junction of 6th Avenue / Bukit Timah Road).
Apart from the freshest seafood and traditional tze char fare, they are also proud to present their own interpretation of other foods- a Singaporean-take on American, French, Italian and Indian cuisine. As such, the signature dishes include US Angus Rib-Eye Beef Steak and German-style Pork Knuckle.

US Angus Rib-Eye Beef Steak - $60
The signature steak come with potatoes wedges and fried rice. The highly rated US angus steak was such an disappointment. The beef was cooked with just salt and pepper. And the taste wise was just normal. I don't think the steak worth the price.
Potatoes wedges
Normal.
Fried Rice
The rice fried with charred fat and burnt ends from the steak was a disappointment too. The rice was hard, salty, and bland.
Salted egg squid - $14
It was the best dish over here. My top favorite!! The squid was fresh and juicy and not overly chewy, but just the right texture. The salted egg sauce was very additive, we even finish every bit of the sauce.
Oyster omelette - $12
The key thing was the sauce in this dish. The sauce as thick, flavorful, and savory. Oyster was fresh and juicy. Omelette was well fried. A pretty good dish.
Sambal KangKong - $10
It was alright. The kangkong was fresh and fragrant but it wasn't spicy enough. The sambal was very nice and fragrant just that it isn't spicy.

This inconspicuous coffee shop offers a good selection of Cze Char items at coffee shop price. New station snack bar is famous for their salted egg pork ribs rice.
Salted egg pork ribs rice - $6
It was fantastic. The pork rib is lightly flavoured and is well fried on the outside while it’s tender on the inside. Every piece of boneless rib is generously coated with the buttery egg yolk sauce, and the sauce was the best!! The salted egg yolk sauce was fragrant, spicy, and savory. It's a must-try dish over here.

The sambl kangkong was good, the sambal was fragrant and spicy. The kangkong was fresh, soft and crunchy. It was a perfect dish to go with a plain rice.
Foo Yong Egg - $10
It was an simple dish, but the most simple dish is the most difficult to cook. Simple dish is to test the chef skill. But the chef has disappointed us as the foo yong egg was a little bit bland and overcooked.
Prawn Paste Chicken - $12
The prawn paste chicken was bad. It was over fried, the chicken skin was slightly burned and bitter, the meat was hard and dry.

Two Chefs Eating Place is a popular Tze Char stall. Their signature dish, the Butter Ribs 牛油排骨 has been highly raved about on the internet.
Butter pork ribs - $10
Super interesting and delish dish. Milky butter powder scattered on generous amount of pork. To my surprise the pork wasn't as dry as it looks. The buttery flavor was nice and fragrant. Highly recommend it to people who love creamy food.
Flammulina Beancurd - $10
Homemade fried beancurd was really good. It has a smooth texture and slightly eggy taste, topped up with a minced meat and golden mushrooms sauce, perfect complement to white rice.
Stir Fried Yam - $8
The stir fried yam was really good, the yam was well stir fried and it was crispy, sweet as the caramelized sugar make an impact on it, and it was soft on the inside.
Spinach with century egg - $12
This dish served with 3 type of eggs, vegetable with egg, salted egg & century egg. It was eggy dish, the taste was slightly bland and plain. Not a worthy dish.
