Supper Place Review

Jthejon Supper places hunt begin!!

First stop, Beach road Scissor-Cut curry rice 美芝律剪刀剪咖喱饭.

Located in Jalan Besar, Beach Road Scissors Cut Curry Rice specialises in Hainanese curry mixed rice.
One of my favorite place to have curry rice. Food doesn’t have to look good to taste good. The scissor cut curry rice proven it. It was tasty and yummy.

What i ordered, Pork chop, braised pork belly, cabbage, egg, curry chicken wing = $6.30.
Ugly looking but taste good. The curry sauce basically was the soul for the entire combination in Hainanese curry rice. The curry was thick, creamy and fragrant. The braised pork belly is a must-order dish. The meat was soft, tender, flavorful and addictive. The braised sauce was the key to the meat.

It attracts long queues at different times of the day. However there is enough seating as they have a shophouse next door to cater to additional seating capacity. I strongly recommend every to visit once in their life.

In 1979, Mr. Thian Boon Hua started a small stall in Chinatown serving Cantonese chicken rice. Building upon the popularity of his silky white sauce chicken rice and emphasis on quality service, he rallied his family members to establish Boon Tong Kee’s first restaurant at Balestier Road in 1983.

In its second year of operation, the restaurant started to garner rave reviews and accolades from industry luminaries and customers. Before long, outlets at MacPherson Road, Whampoa West, River Valley Road, Cheong Chin Nam Road and East Coast Road followed in rapid succession.

The company diversified its operations in 1999 to include "Zi Char" (home-style cooked food) and eateries. From the traditional Balestier Road outlet to the upscale River Valley branch, Boon Tong Kee has enthralled Singaporeans and tourists alike with its delectable food and friendly staff.

Ninth stop, Five Star Hainanese Chicken Rice 五星海南鸡饭.

Using Kampong chicken (free-range chicken), the chicken served at Five Star Hainanese Chicken Rice is leaner with less fats, and the rice served is also fluffy and not as oily, with chicken broth used, instead of chicken fat to cook it. The homemade chilli sauce and ginger are also excellent accompaniments to this fragrant dish. Other great dishes here include the Hainanese pork chop and homemade tofu (beancurd).

The chicken rice wasn't that fragrant and it was hard.

Steamed white chicken - $16 (Half)

The chicken was soft and tender, moistened with the sauce, and the skin was smooth and not oily.

Food: 2/5
Ambiance: 2/5
Service: 2/5

Overall, 5 Star chicken rice isn't the cheapest  stall in town but its probably among the top few in Singapore. They use kampong chickens, which supposedly have less fat content and are therefore healthier. It worth a try.

Sing Ho Hainan Chicken Rice addresses this health concern by offering a much healthier version of this dish.

Steamed Hainanese Chicken - $12 (Half)

The chicken was nicely presented. However, the texture of the chicken was disappointing. The meat was tender but the texture was coarse. The sauce was sadly mild.

The rice was not only plain but also a little soggy in texture.

Eleventh stop, Kko Kko Nara.

Specializing in KFC (Korean fried chicken, not the American fast food chain), Owner Ms Eon Lee, is a self-taught Korean cook who spent 6 months perfecting her fried chicken recipe before opening the restaurant in 2008. Her tenacity was rewarded as Kkko Kko Nara quickly attracted a dedicated following with its tantalizing and different kind of fried chicken.

Offering 4 different flavors of KFC – original, soy garlic sauce, sweet & spicy, and hot & spicy, Kko Kko Nara aims to serve fried chicken with a twist of its own.
Regular customers include both the Korean community living in Singapore, as well as the locals, who are starting to realize how irresistible Kko Kko Nara’s brand of Korean fried chicken is.

Radish (Complementary Dish)

Spicy Sausage Stew - $27

Spicy stew with vegetable, noodle, spam, mushroom and sausage.
The spicy stew was quite disappointing. The broth was plain and lacking of some taste. The portion of the ingredients was quite generous. It was quite a waste as the broth was bad.

Fried chicken wings marinated with garlic and soy sauce.
I ordered the spicy version wings, it come with 4 little wings, and 4 little drumlets. The chicken was well fried, it was crispy on the outside, and soft, tender on the inside. The sauce was spicy and fragrant. The non spicy lover should try too.  It was really good.
