Food Review: Sushi Airways 寿司航空

13:39:00

Sushi Airways invites you to a unique gastronomic adventure, on board Singapore’s first aircraft themed restaurant.

There're located within walking distance of the hipster Haji Lane, and are smack in the centre of the quaint and bohemian Arab Street/ Kampong Glam district. You will experience something unique in ambience combined with high quality dining that will not send your wallet through an air pocket.

Looking through the windows of the 2nd storey restaurant ‘aircraft’, you will enjoy the view and buzz of Arab Street, literally looking down, in air-con comfort. Popular with air crew and the general public alike, Sushi Airways prides itself on providing the freshest sushi and sashimi to the passengers. Choice seafood is flown in four times a week from Japan to satisfy even the most discerning of palates.

They offer an a-la-carte menu via our distinctive Flight Manual, complemented with a full alcohol menu showcasing an excellent selection of sake and whisky.

Should you wish to partake, and lift yourself above the clouds, the chef also offers an Omakase degustation menu based on seasonal specialities flown in that week. (Omakase means “I’ll leave it to you” in Japanese). Both a-la-carte and Omakase menus offer a gastronomic experience to give some of the best Japanese restaurants in town a run for their money. For those who prefer a light sampler, they do offer a choice of set lunches, priced at a very reasonable $15+ per head. Perfect for that short flight before getting back to work or resuming one’s shopping adventure in Haji Lane.

 Green Tea - $3

 Sapporo - $8.50 (4 for $30)

 Salmon Sashimi - $11

The thickness is perfect, I would usually go for slight volume than super thinly sliced pieces. Fatty fish, full of Omega 3 fatty acids.

Taste: 4/5

 Chawamushi - $8

It was just a ordinary Chawamushi.

Taste: 2.5/5

Soft Shell Crab Maki - $22

The maki was fresh and good. The soft shell crab was very crispy, flavorful and savory. The sauce was savory and it enhanced the overall taste.

Taste: 3/5

 Kaki Fry - $12

In Japanese, fried oysters is called kaki fry or kaki fura. This fried oyster was good, it was savory, fresh, juicy and well coated and fried.

Taste: 3/5

 Kurobuta Katsu - $16

The kurobuta katsu is a must-have! Tender succulent USA black pork is breaded and fried in 180 degrees Celsius oil till golden brown. The tonkatsu sauce is specially imported all the way from Japan.

Taste: 3.5/5

 Ebi Mentai Prawn - $10

The ebi mentai prawn was good but it can be better. The mentai sauce wasn't that savory and flavorful enough. I feel that it was lacking of some flavor in it for the mentai sauce. But overall it still tasted good.

Taste: 2/5

 Black Sesame Soba - $16

The black sesame soba was normal. I can't taste much of the sesame, it was just a normal soba for me.

Taste: 1.5/5

Food: 4/5
Ambiance: 4.5/5
Service: 4/5

Overall, the food was good and the service was perfect. I highly recommend everyone to go for a try. It worth every penny. The restaurant only charge service tax and it doesn't charge GST.
