WHAT CAUSES OILY SCALP

The most common cause of an oily scalp is heredity. There is a certain hormone present in the genes which causes oily skin. This hormone, dihydrotestosterone, is genetically transferred. As such if a member of your family has oily skin, then it is highly likely that you will have the same too.

While hereditary disorders cannot be eliminated but can be reduced with special attention to scalp care.

Another major cause of oily scalp conditions is poor hygiene. Dirty hair tends to induce the production of sebum or oil in the scalp. If hair is not shampooed and conditioned often enough, secreted oils on the scalp will start to accumulate, causing scalp problems over time.

An oily scalp contains excess oil. It feels heavy and laggard. This excess oil attracts dirt and germs, which causes the scalp to feel itchy. Scalp pimples may start to form and hair feels and looks dirty.

TREATING OILY SCALP

Treating an oily scalp requires specific care. Overstimulation using shampoos laden with chemicals may feel good at the time you wash your hair because of the soapy bubbles, but this may only cause more problems and damage to your scalp over time.

The oily scalp treatments at PHS HAIRSCIENCE contain nine botanical ingredients with astringent properties, including rosemary, nettle, sage and burdock. These are blended with lemon essential oils which gently cleanse the scalp while removing dirt and excess sebum. Hair gains new volume and weightlessness as a result.
