Food Review: Nam Kee Chicken Rice Restaurant x Chicken Rice Ex-press x Kampong Chicken Rice Chicken House

14:01:00

Chicken rice was one of the Singaporean flavourite dish, even myself also love it. Went to have a simple lunch at Nam Kee chicken rice with my friend Alvin.

Not much people know about Nam Kee chicken rice, it is located at Upper Thomson Road. Chatted with Nam Kee staff, Nam Kee was in Upper thomson for more than 40 years. Currently the chef now is the boss son, as the boss was too old to cooked or handle the long working hours. The recipe was passed down to the son.

Interior:

Old school interior, hard to find old school interior design places nowadays.

Menu:

Sauces:

The chilli sauce was a bit disappointing as it was spicy at all.

Iced Teh - $1.50

Don't ever order it!! The teh was very awful, no taste at all, as if i am drinking iced water.

Taste: 0/5

Chicken Rice -

The rice was lack of  fragrance and moist. It was too soggy and plain.

Taste: 0/5

Half Chicken - $13

The chicken was disappointing too. The chicken meat was dry and lack of taste and fragrance. I will never come back again!!

Taste: 0/5

Soup -

The soup was quite delicious although the rest of the dish was BAD. The soup was refilled twice.

Taste: 3/5

Food: 0/5

Ambiance: 3/5
Service: 2/5

Overall, the chicken rice was a disappointment although the soup was good but i will never come back again!! Giving point to the interior but minus point for the food.

Another Chicken rice lunch with my blogger friend HP (Hong Peng).

Chicken rice ex-press was crowed during weekdays lunch time as it was located at killiney road and a lot of office building around.

Sauces:

The chilli sauce was good, it was spicy and fragrance. Chilli was one the key sauces for chicken rice, without it, it won't be perfect anymore.

Iced Barley - $1.50

Normal Iced Barley.

Soya Chicken Rice with Egg - $4.80

The soya chicken was good, the meat was very tender, fragrance and flavorful. The skin was flavorful and smooth. Yum Yum.

Taste: 3/5

Chicken Rice -

The rice was fragrance, full of chicken aroma and moist.

Taste: 2.3/5

Soup -

The soup was sucky.

Taste: 0/5

Food: 2/5

Ambiance: 1/5
Service: 2/5

Overall, The chicken rice was good and affordable. The best chicken rice in somerset area.

One of the hidden gem in Upper Thomson. I can say, Kampong Chicken House was one of the best chicken rice at upper thomson.

Food:
Sauces -

Water Chestnut - $1.50 -

The Homemade water chestnut was overly sweet! The water chestnut aroma wasn't strong!! I would rather drink mineral water.

Taste: 0/5

Chicken Rice - $4

The cooked chickens have a distinct yellowish and paper-thin skin which has no discernible layer of underneath fat to cram up the extra calories. The Kampong Chicken was quite tender and not as lean as I would have expected. It's also not over drown by sauce, so as i an taste the the natural sweetness of the meat.

Taste: 4/5

The rice was full of flavour from the essence of the chicken, each rice grain was nicely cooked, not lumpy and soggy.

Taste: 3.5/5

Soup -

The veggie soup was quite bland. But overall it still good.

Taste: 1/5

Food: 3.5/5
Ambiance: 1.5/5
Service: 2/5

Overall, Chicken House also serves other side dishes on their menu besides their delectable chicken rice. It also has GST but there's no Service Charge!!
