Food Review: Portico Host @Alexandra

23:46:00

Portico Host (previously known as Hosted on the Patio) is housed in a venue that is reminiscent of an elegantly designed living room in a favoured friend’s home. Surrounded by the restaurant’s own garden and a sprawling alfresco space which can seat 100, the relaxed vibe of the main dining hall beckons guests to gather with their friends and linger over a delicious meal and chill out over drinks. The ambiance is laid-back, warm and inviting.

Portico Host offers a predominantly modern European-inspired, yet eclectic menu. It is a full selection of foods, from hearty snacks, healthy soups and salads, and filling sandwiches, through to generous main courses, followed by tempting desserts. All of these options are served in our simple, homely style. Simple presentation does not mean simple tastes though. A lot of thought is focused towards flavours, textures and presentation without neglecting the soul and essence of the dish.

Hamachi Yu Sheng -

Started off my dinner with group of friends with Hamachi Yu Sheng. What's in it?

Shredded vegetable, shallot, lurk, beetroot, carrot, white radish, spring onion, crisp lotus root, crispy wanton skin, kankuat pomelo, peanut, sesame, picked ginger, picked mango, apple vinaigrette.

HUAT AR!!

Duo of Crab -
Chili Mud Crab Meat dip with man tou, crispy boy crab tossed on salted egg, edible soil. The edible soil is made off salted egg yolk! What an interesting dish! The baby crab was well seasoned and it was very crispy!

Hotatte Tattaki -

Seared Hotatte, Mentaiko, Apple slaw,  avruga caviar, crispy kaya ebi, compress watermelon, sesame dressing. I guess hotatte will never does wrong with anything as long it's fresh!

Trio of Skin -

Eel skin with pork floss, chicken skin with host seasoning, pork skin cracking. My top favourite was their chicken skin as it was well seasoned and fried! It was very savoury and addictive to me. Pork skin cracking was my least favourite as it was on the bland side but so far it was alright.

Grilled Octopus -

Potato Salad, Crispy quinoa, chili bacon jam. It was on the sweet side due to the bacon jam. The octopus was chewy and fresh.

Duck Leg Confit -

Potato mash, purple cabbage stew, red pepper coulis, port wine sauce. Crispy duck skin, tender and savoury meat matched with creamy potato mash.

72 Hour Braised Angus Beef Cheek -

Gratin Potato, grilled veggies, confit tomato.

Melty tender beef cheek that will make you come back for more!

Seared Chicken Breast -

Kumera Puree, Roasted vegetable, confit cherry vine-tomato, quail egg. Don't worry, the chicken breast meat wasn't tough and dry! Instead it was tender and soft. One of my favourite dish among all.

BBQ Pork rib -
Curly fried, grilled veggies, BBQ Sauce. The sauce was on the bbq and tangy spicy side. The meat was extreme flavourful and tender!

Snapper Pie -

Snapper fillet, wild mushroom ragout, asparagus, tomato, truffle oil, puff pastry.  This dish you shouldn't miss out! The best dish rated by all of us in this restaurant!

Tiramisu -

Macarpone cheese, Kahlua, vanilla sponge, espresso, edible soil. The tiramisu was flavourful, fragrance, creamy and addictive.

Kaya Cream Brûlée -

Coconut sabayon, pistachio crisps and vanilla ice cream.

Pineapple -
Pineapple and rubbed crumber, pineapple dehydrated, pineapple sherbet.

My Verdict:
Overall, We enjoyed our dining experienced at Portico Host! Dish not to be missed! Snapper Pie, Hotatte Tattaki, Seared Chicken Breast.
