Food Review: Japanese Cuisine: Standing Sushi Bar, The Sushi Bar, Koh Grill and Sushi Bar, Sushi Express, Coco Ichibanya, Monster Curry
01:29:00Jthejon food venture begin!! (Japanese Cuisine)
First stop, Standing Sushi Bar.
Inspired by the standing sushi bars in Tokyo, the original branch of Singapore's Japanese restaurant opened in August 2009 at One Raffles Place. In October 2010, a full-service branch was opened at the Singapore Contemporary Art Museum. Located in the Bras Basah district, the 8 Queen Street outlet offers an extensive menu including robatayaki, tempura, and sashimi as well as one of the largest Japanese sake and alcohol selections in Singapore.
The restaurant has expanded internationally with its first overseas branch at La Piazza in Kelapa Gading. Located in Jakarta, Indonesia, Standing Sushi Bar brings quality sushi and great Japanese food to the north Jakarta area.

Food was quite average but the salmon sashimi is the best of the best. And it was quite cheap too. Ambiance was good and cozy. It was a good dining place with family or group dining.

Food
Japanese Green Tea
Normal Japanese Green Tea that served in every Japanese restaurant.
Salad,
Starting off the meal with an healthy and appetizing appetizer.
The salad was sample, and yet so good. Especially the sesame dressing.
Tamago,
Tamago was one of my favorite in a Japanese cuisine. But this tamago failed to impress me. The taste was quite bland.
Chawanmushi (Steamed egg),
Chawanmushi was another dish failed to impress me again. It was quite bland and it wasn't fresh. Can taste a little bit of rotten egg taste or maybe is my taste-bud spoil!! Haha
Salmon Sashimi,
Never leave a Jap-restaurant without ordering the salmon sashimi.
The salmon sashimi over at The Standing sushi bar, was really good. It was fresh, thick and juicy.
Avocado prawn roll,
One of the best seller roll at The standing sushi bar, The avocado was fresh and strong but yet it never overwhelmed. Prawn was fresh and juicy, it was well blended with avocado.
Beef Suki-yaki,
It was a little bit disappointing as the broth was sweet but yet it was a it lack of taste. Beef was fresh and tender.

Second Stop, The Sushi Bar.
The Sushi Bar aims towards customers satisfaction were it serves a high quality and yet ver tasty Japanese cuisine.
Japanese Green Tea
Standard Japanese green tea.
Chawanmushi
It always good to have a hot bowl of chawanmushi in a Japnese restaurant.
It was pretty good as it was smooth, fragrant, soft and fresh.
Shishamo
I would prefer the shishamo to be grilled than deep fried. The deep fried shishamo was a bit disappointed.
Salmon Sashimi,
I think it was a little bit disappointing. The salmon slices was too thick. I prefer thinner slice of salmon sashimi.
Mentaiko Oyster
Fresh oyster topped up with mentaiko sauce. It was a creative dish.
The oyster was big, fresh and juicy. But i felt that the mentaiko sauce never goes well with the fresh oyster.
Salmon Aburi Roll
The signature dish over here at The Sushi Bar.
The salmon aburi roll was really very addictive. You will instantly fall for it. The salmon aburi roll was fresh, savory and tasty.
Salmon fish soup
The broth was very rich, smooth and fragrant. But it was a little bit salty. The salmon in the soup was soft and tender but it was a bit tasteless. I think the main thing was just the soup.
Wafu Spaghetti
It a pretty good dish but it wasn't that fantastic. The sauce was sweet and creamy. I felt that it was plainly sweet and nothing else. It doesn't really worth the price.
Tamago Sushi
Tamago was a bit over pan fried but it was good, the egg was spongy and tasty.
Salmon Sushi
Salmon was fresh and juicy.
Mentaiko Salmon Sushi
Pan fried salmon with mantaiko sauce was really heaven. It was perfectly good.
Unagi Sushi
Unagi was fresh and soft. Sauce was perfectly good.
Scallop Sushi
Scallop was fresh, smooth and chewy.

The queue was really crazy, even though they had shifted in to a bigger outlet but the queue was really long. Avoid waiting for so long, call them and make a reservation.
The ambiance here was cozy. It a good dining place for family and group dining.

Salmon Sashimi
It's a must-order dish whenever you went to a Japanese restaurant.
The salmon was pretty ordinary, but it was fresh and juicy, the thikness was just right too.

Mentaiko salmon sushi
The mentaiko over here was pretty normal. It not really fantastic.
Fried salmon skin
The deep fried salmon skin was pretty good. It was crispy, savory and not too dry.
Unagi Egg Hotplate
It was pretty normal. But the unagi was pretty good. It was fresh, juicy and savory. Every bite was a bomb in ur mouth. The egg was really normal but it was a little bit bland.
Shiok Maki
The signature dish over here at Koh Grill and Sushi Bar.
You will instant fall in love with the shiok maki over here. The shiok maki will make you come back for it. It was really delicious. The key point to the like of everyone is the sauce.
The shiok maki was drizzled with charred cheesy mayonnaise and topped with tobiko.
Beef Suki-yaki
Beef sukiyaki consisted of a mixture of assorted vegetables, tofu and beef.
The beef was fresh and tender. Egg york mixture is the best dip for beef suki-yaki. The broth was rich, and flavorful. But i felt that it was a little bit salty. But overall it was good.
Food: 3.5/5
Ambiance: 2.5/5
Service: 1/5
The service was really bad!! The waitress took forever to come and their attitude seriously rude. To avoid the queue, better make a reservation a week in advance to prevent long waiting time. The shiok maki is the reason everyone is coming back although the service was bad!!

Chicken Cutlet Curry (Level 1)
I opted for a spice level 1. Level 1 is not spicy at all, suitable for non spicy eater.
The curry was, rich, creamy, flavorful and fragrant. The chicken cutlet was crispy and tender.
Omu Rice with Chicken Cutlet (Level 3)
Level 3 of spiciness is just right for a spicy eater.
Level 3 curry was similar to the other level of curry. The egg was soft and flavorful.

Reasonable price and food quality was fantastic. It worth a many visit. It is a perfect option for curry lovers, spice lovers who want to try out something different, other than the typical India / Mediterranian curries.
Sixth Stop, Monster Curry.
Monster Curry serves all its dishes at five different levels of spiciness, thanks to a hot sauce that is a concoction of chilli padi, garlic, ginger and celery.
The signature dishes include the Monster Combo Curry that serve up to two, the Cheese Pork Katsu, stuffed with fresh Mozzarella cheese, the protein-rich Natto and Egg Curry and Beef Shabu- Shabu.

Cheesy Chicken Katsu Curry (2 Flame)
The curry was thick, flavorful, fragrant and healthy. The unique about their curry is that it is made from fresh fruits.
The chicken was crispy and tender too. The level 2 flame was just alright, it wasn't that spicy, it's suitable for a non-spicy lover too.
Chicken Katsu Curry (5 Flame)
The level 5 flame was really monster hot. It was crazy spicy, the spicy lover definitely will love it!!
Food: 3.75/5

You'll be shocked by the size of their plates! The curry was really good. Price was reasonable. Spicy lover and curry lover will surely love it and be sure to be back for more.
