14:14:00

Hi fellow readers, I am back for more food update.
This week will be doing a series of review of six Japanese restaurants.
Everyone love Japanese food, who will say no to Jap food.
As everyone know, i can eat Jap food for all days and won't feel sick of it.
Lets' cut the craps and start off with this week food adventure.

Gonna start off with this week First trip, to Tanuki Raw

Tanuki, which means Japanese Raccoon, It was opened by the same people behind the Standing Sushi Bar. This place is an 80 seater bar and restaurant in Orchard Central where they challenged the Spanish Tapas by serving Japanese small plates. Tanuki is also best known for their happy hour and it also a favourite after-work hangout place for working adults.

Menu can be found in their website.

Oyster ($2),  Freshly raw oyster. It was pretty good. Oyster lover would definitely love it.

Salmon Sashimi ($7++), The salmon was fresh and juicy. But i don't think it worth the price, you can get good and cheaper salmon at other place.
Rockstar Roll ($10++), Seared salmon is draped over the sushi rice roll of seaweed sheets and fried breaded mozzarella cheese, topped with a layer of mentaiko sauce. This was really good.

Salmon Mentaiko Don ($20++), Seared salmon over the rice, topped up with mentaiko sauce. It was really good, the sauce is the "BOMB". However i find it a bit overprice.

Kiwi Shrub Mojito ($18++)

Tanuki is definitely a place that is a must to visit during their Happy Hour. If you enjoy fresh raw oysters, alcoholic drinks, martinis or really good Japanese food, this is the place for you. It’s a great hangout spot for the working adults or with friends. Prices for their food is quite overpriced although the food was food.

Second Stop, Saboten.

Saboten, a Japanese restaurant chain well known for their Tonkatsu (fried breaded pork loin cutlet).Saboten was first started out in Shinjuku, Tokyo in 1966. Today, it is one of the biggest Tonkatsu chain in Japan with over 500 outlets. It has also expanded overseas to South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Grind the sesame and added their special sauce.

Tenderloin Set ($24++), one of the signature dish at saboten. The tenderloin katsu never disappoint me. The pork loin cutlet coated with crisp golden bread crumbs was tender, soft, juicy, and slightly moist. It was a sinfully delicious. Best eaten when it is warm.

Saboten special set ($27++), It came with shrimps, loin, and chicken katsu. All the meat coated with crisp golden bread crumbs was tender, soft, fresh, and juicy. It a good choice for meat lover.

Matcha Ice cream,  It was awful!! Don't ever try it.

The entire meal will comes with free flow of Plain Shredded Cabbage, Miso Soup and a Mocha (Green Tea) Ice Cream. Before the main dish was serve, we will first have a Cabbage and Prickles as an appetizer. It was a good place for a meal if you like quiet places.

Third Stop, Kazokutei.

Kazokutei was established in 1947, and is one of Osaka’s most well known brands of udon restaurant. With over 200 outlets in Japan, the company prides itself in the delicious and high quality handmade udon, and the healthy cooking methods used by its chefs to bring out the natural taste of the noodle.

Kazokutei offers udon from both eastern and western Japan, with 2 different types of soup bases. Kokudashi Udon is from Eastern Japan where katsuo bushi (dried bonito) is typically used to make a stronger flavoured soup, while Shira Dashi Udon is from Western Japan where konbu (sea tangle) is generally used to make a sweeter taste soup.

Hamburger and Chicken Omu Rice ($12.90++), The omu rice was good, the rice was sweet and tasty. The hamburger was tender and juicy but the chicken cutlet was a bit dry.

Seafood Tom Yum Hotpot ($23.90++), It came with a set, include udon, maki, and chawanmushi. The seafood was fresh and the tom yum was good. Just that is was not spicy enough.

Kokodashi Udon ($7.90), The udon was really good, the soup was smooth, rich and tasty.

Food: 2.75/5

The service was quite bad over here. The food was cheap but the quality was just average. If you guys just looking for a simple meals, this is a good place to have it.

Fourth Stop, Nana's Green Tea.

Nana’s Green Tea from Japan could be the equivalent of Starbucks in Singapore, and has reached our grounds for some time now. Situated at Plaza Singapura.

Set Lunch Menu. More menu item is available on the nana's green tea website.

Azuki Bean Latte, Cafe Latte (Set Meal), The azuki bean latte was sweet, rich, milky and aromatic. The cafe latte was average.

Matcha Latte topped with Whipped Cream ($7.50++), The matcha green tea was aromatic, creamy and smooth. The best matcha latte.

Hamburg Curry, The beef patty was soft tender, while the curry was too watery and not spicy enough. The japanese rice was fragrant and soft.

Locomoco Hamburg, It comprised of beef patty, salad, and Japanese rice. The tomato sauce which was added over the beef patty was just too spicy for our liking. It overwhelmed the other flavors.

The Week Day Set Lunch promotion made it so much more affordable having a meal at Nana's Green Tea. It is a good place to chill over during late noon with friends over a good matcha latte.

Fifth Stop, Waraku.

Waraku means “Peace and Harmony” in the Japanese native language . They opened it’s first outlet in 2000 at East Coast Park . It offers cuisine from the Kyoto prefecture to Singapore , from sushi to tempura to kaminabes (mini hot-pots) . Waraku has many concepts , those being Waraku Casual Dining , Pasta De Waraku , Cafe de Waraku and Mr. Curry.

Chicken Karaage. Well deep fried, the chicken was tender and crispy.

Salmon Sashimi, Salmon was fresh and smooth.

Salmon Avocado Maki, The avocado was too little, the avocado taste never come out and the maki was not that sticky.

Suki-Yaki, The soup was smooth, rich, sweet and fragrant. The beef was fresh and tasty.

If you like Japanese cuisine , then Waraku is a great place to visit . Green tea is a must have to start and finish a Japanese meal. Remember that peak hours will always bring in crowds , so if you want to be served quickly , go before or after the crowd arrives .
Final stop of the week, Ichiban Boshi.

Ichiban Boshi restaurants offer a unique design and ambience, as well as specialty menus.
You can expect the same modern Japanese cuisine and the same level of exacting quality with a wide selection of sushi, fresh sashimi and variety set meals.

Tenryu ($38.90++), The raw sushi was not that fresh, it gave out a weird taste. Even the unagi was just average. Disappointing sushi.

Yakitori was disappointing too. Some was overcooked still it has the burned taste.

Food: 1/5

Service: 2.5/5

The food was quite disappointing, don't think i will be back again. Service was rather slow on that day, given the fact that the restaurant was not crowded at all. Still, they even can missed out one of our order.

Hope you guys found my review useful.
See ya again!! :)
