Food Review: Dim Sum: Tim Ho Wan x Swee Choon x 126 搵到食

Hi my fellow readers,  I am back for more food review. 
This week I will be doing dim sum restaurants review. 

Dim Sum is a style of Cantonese food prepared as small bite sized or individual portions of food traditional served in small steamer baskets or on small plates. 

Let start off with this week first stop.

First stop, Tim Ho Wan. 

Making a trip down to Tim Ho Wan with my church friends for dinner. 

Tim Ho Wan was awarded one Michelin star for it array of dim sum. The success led the chef to taking his famed dim sum overseas for the first time.

Char Siew Pau ($4.50++) // The exterior of the pau is crumbly, and the interior char Siew with the oozing sauce tasted sweet and salty . It is a must-to-try dish.


Century porridge ($4.50++) // The porridge is smooth, fragrant, and silky.  


Vermicelli Roll ($5.50++) // It stuffed with char Siew. It was a good combination. The texture of the vermicelli roll was soft and chewy.


Siew Mai ($5++) // The filling is very generous,  but it was average.


Pork Ribs with black bean sauce ($4.20++) // The pork Ribs was soft and tender. But the sauce was a bit bland.  


Steamed fish ($5.50++) // The new dish recommended by the chef. The texture of the fish was smooth and soft. But the sauce and the fish was too bland.


Spring Roll with Egg White ($4.20++) // It was crispy and crunchy. Tasted great!


Rice with beef and fried egg ($6++) // The beef was fragrant, and tender. The sauce was good.


Rice with Chicken, sausage,  and mushroom ($6++) // The chicken was tender but it tasted a bit bland. Average dish.

Ambience: 2.5/5
Service: 4.5/5 

The service was fast and efficient. Once we finish with our food the service staffs will clear it straight away. And the food was good too.

Second stop,  Swee Choon. 

Heading down to swee Choon with my a few of my diploma friends for dinner. 

Swee Choon in operation for more than 50 years and is a well known dim sum restaurant which is very popular among Singaporean.  And it a best place for supper for Singaporean too.

Xiao Long Pau // The texture of the pau was soft and chewy,  the interior, the meat was tender and the soup was fragrant and smooth.


Fried Dumplings // It was well fried, the meat was fresh and tender.


Egg Tarts // The exterior was crunchy and the interior was soft and smooth.


Century porridge // The porridge was average. Tasted a bit bland.


Siew Mai // Average.


Pork Ribs with black bean sauce // The meat was soft and tender. The sauce was good.


Chilli dumplings // The spiciness was there and the texture of the dumplings was soft and the meat was fresh.


 Salted egg custard bun // The highly raved custard bun was very impressive. The best dish at Swee Choon. It a must-to-try dish.

Ambience: 2/5
Service: 2.5/5 

The good over here was just average but I like their custard bun a lot. The service over here was moderate. The restaurant will be packed on weekend midnight. So better come during weekday or during dinner time.

Last Stop, 126 搵到食.

Making a trip down with my church friends for supper after hanging out in church after service. 

126 dim sum is pronounced as Wan Dou Sek in Cantonese and literally means "Found Something to eat". Coincidentally the stall is located at unit 126 which is sound like "Wan Dou Sek".

From left to right. 
1) Fried Prawns: It was too oily and it tasted awful.

2) Fried Char Siew Pau:  It was great,  the char Siew was sweet and salty. It was well fried.

3) Fried Yam Cakes: Too oily and the texture was quite tough.

4) Century Porridge: The porridge was fragrant,  smooth,  and silky. The portion of the century egg was very generous.

5) Siew Mai: Below Average.

6) Yam cakes: Average.

7) Pork Ribs with black bean sauce: The pork Ribs was tender and fragrant but the sauce was too salty.

8) Xiao Long Pau: The texture of the pau was soft and chewy, the soup was smooth and fragrant and the meat was fresh.

9) Vermicelli Roll: The texture was smooth and the sauce was great.

Service: 2/5 

The food over here was average. It is a famous supper place for those night owls.
