Makan @ Jen Restaurant

Hotel Jen Orchard Gateway Singapore will be showcasing the best of Singapore Hawker Cuisine this July and August with live cooking station set up on the terrace of Makan@Jen serrving freshly made local dishes, and features local favourites including Roti Prata, Hokkien mee, Chicken Satay, and Oyster Omelette. Diners will also be able to try out some Singapore sweeter selection, including the ever popular kaya toast, various selection of Nonya kueh and even bubur cha cha with durian.

Central to the dinner will be one of Singapore all time favourites - Singapore Laska, done with a twist. Chef Lee's Laska Fried Rice is his take on a dish that was first brought into Singapore by the peranakan. Who settled in the katong area between the 15th and 17th centuries. While there are many variation of Laska. Chef Lee Laska recipe remain a secret but is freshly made at Makan@Jen and the laska fried rice is prepared alongside fresh seafood and laska sauce.

My Verdict:
I enjoyed my dining experience at Makan@Jen. Their Singapore Hawker Food was good, the money you pay definitely won't gone to waste. Try their hokkien mee and Wanton mee, highly recommended by me.

Pompompurin Cafe Review

South-east Asia’s first POMPOMPURIN Cafe. For the uninitated, POMPOMPURIN is a yellow golden retriever dog character introduced by Sanrio in 1996. Every Pompompurin Café in the world adopts a theme unique to the local likes and culture; as such, the Singapore café will be furnished according to a “Garden City” theme, complete with lush greenery.

For Singapore branch, it covered a space of 1,900 sq ft. with a 4-seater “Tomodachi House” booths and also 4 seater table.

For now I'am going tell you the truth about their food quality.

There also sell merchandise too. Can buy it as a souvenir or for your kids present.

Pudding Shake - $12.99++

Mango pudding with mango juice topped up with whipped cream. I feel like this was an dessert instead of beverage. The taste wise was slightly bland, it wasn't flavorful enough.

Iced Peach Tea - $6.99++

Just an ordinary iced peach tea.

Pompompurin Coconut Milk Chicken Curry - $17.99++

A mild curry created from the sweet and rich flavor of coconut milk. Topped with lots of veggies, chicken meat, and a bowl of cute yellowish steam rice. The taste wise, it was weird, the curry was sweet and indescribable weird taste. Not recommended to try.

Taco Rice in a Cup of Friendship - $19.99++

Nacho chips, beef, and lots of veggies with a bowl of yellowish rice. The taste wise, it was unique but at least it was better than the chicken curry.

My Verdict:
My experienced at Pompompurin Cafe was bad!! The food quality was bad, the service was even bad too!! First, the staffs keep forgeting our order, second, the staffs forever showing (Black face), third, service was super slow and the server was not attentive. And also the food we order, most of them was unavailable, when it was only 1pm. Highly not recommended, but it was insta-worthy photo, so i guess we are paying for the photo instead of the food.

Lush Aesthetics: Fat Freezing Experience

Two months ago, I started my Fat Freezing Treatment at LUSH Aesthetics. Going to share more about it. I have been exercising weekly but there's still some stubborn fats around my tummy area. Everyone loves shortcut, so if there's a way to reduce your fats instantly, why not give it a try!!

If you're wondering if it hurts, nope it doesn't hurt, but it does feel uncomfortable cause my tummy feel numb and freezing. The uncomfortable feeling will stay for 15 minutes and afterwards I feel comfortable till I fall asleep. It was 1 hours treatment.

This's how my tummy looked like after the treatment. The bruise is normal due to the treatment, it should go away in about 1 week.

Can you tell the different? My tummy did became slimmer by roughly 1-2cm, just after 2 months of treatments, are you surprised too? The result will only be visible after 2 to 6 months depends on individual. I can't wait for more Fat Freezing treatment session with LUSH Aesthetics.

Food Review: Horizon Bistronomy Alexandra

A bistro using french cooking techniques , world flavors . Serving gastronomical dishes of fine dining standard with affordable prices in casual setting.

Horizon the apparent line that separates the earth from the sky. In their case. They are the line that act as the body that seperates the once exquisite fine dining from the mass market.

The word "bistronomy" is conceived from a word play between gastronomy and bistro, as the meaning harmonize perfectly with founders vision to introduces fine dining inspired dishes in an more bistro settings.

In order to create a multi-sensory culinary experience the chefs present a range of carefully crafted dishes sophisticated french cooking technique and yet not restricted by traditional french flavors only. Hence the tag line:

"French's techniques, World flavors"

Since their opening in December 2014, Chef Owner Chris. believes in letting the natural ingredients shine, other than sourcing the freshest produces from both local farms and the global market the chef also strive to support other artisanal producers when purchasing wine, cheese, ciders and many other ingredients.

Inspired by great artisanal foods and holding utmost respect for food producers around the world. The culinary brigade make the best of many ingredients, such as cooking from scratch without using any form aftifical flavouring (such as MSG)

It's their pleasure to have you here and we will now hand over to let our food craft the rest of the story.

I quite like their cozy and relaxing atmosphere in this restaurant.

Entrees:

Curry Chicken Rillettes -

Sakura Shrimps, Rillettes, Thai Basil Pesto, Curry Leaves, Brioche.

This dish will be served separately, you can DIY the amount of ingredients in it and the brioche will be served in a big pieces.

Horizon's Angel Hair -

Chilled Angel Hair, spanner crab, tobiko, Ikura, chorizo oil.

My top favourite dish among all!! Mix all the ingredients well before you dig in. It was savoury and addictive. I can have more plate of this goodness. Highly recommended.

Egg 63 -

Sous Vide Egg, Potato Pouree, Enoki Mushroom Threads, Laudon, Cous Cous, Herb Jus.

The egg was cooked in 63 degree celsius. How to eat this dish, first pour the sauce given to you, next cur the egg and let the yolk to flow out, finally mix everything together and you can have your awesome egg dish.

Tomato Consomme -

Home cured salmon confit, prawn, peas, carrot, baby zucchini, tomato consomme.

The salmon was well soaked in this clear, light and flavorful broth. This is the best entree to open up your appetite.

Main:

Blanc -

Fresh Halibut, Cauliflower puree, Daikon, cauliflower, burnt onion, white asparagus.

Don't judge the food by the coloring, this dish was really good just that the coloring don't look appetizing and the plating too. The plating looks weird to me but oh well. The halibut was fresh and soft. It goes really well with the cauliflower puree.

Pork Belly 2 Ways -

Crispy pork belly confit, 24 hours sous vide pork, carrot puree, baby carrot, caramel apple, green asparagus, pork jus.

Personally I prefer the braised pork belly than the crispy pork belly confit. The 24 hours sous vide pork was well braised till the texture was super soft and tender. It has the melt-in-your-mouth texture. The crispy pork belly was slightly disappointed as the skin wasn't too crispy and flavorful enough. The meat was slightly less tender and flavorful.

Dessert:

Deconstructed Yuzu Cheese Cake -

Yuzu curd, whipped cheese mousse, truffle popcorn, green tea nama, cinnamon soil.

Something interesting!! You will get a different taste with every bites. The yuzu curd goes well with this dish.

Peanut Butter 2016 -

Vanilla chiboust, beuure noisettes financied, apple puree, aged pickled apple, chorizo caramel, brioche.

It was a very creative dish. Although this dish was called Peanut butter 2016 but it doesn't contain any peanut butter in it and it was replaced by other ingredients, but it still tasted like peanut butter!! Impressive!!

Orange Soba -

Cilantro Pearl, Lemongrass Saabayon.

It was a very refreshing dessert. The soba noodle was chewy and tangy sweet. I would like it if this dish was more sour side than on the sweet side.

Memories -

Milo Truffle, kaya macaroon, Mango Lollipop, Peach pate de fruit.

This will be the ladies favourite dessert. The milo truffle was really addictive. My advise consume the milo truffle last as if you had it first, it will destroy all the other dessert taste!

My Verdict:
I enjoyed my experience at Horizon Bistronomy Alexandra. They started out their first outlet at punggol settlement and it was very successful so they decided to expand their business. Both outlet will be serving different menu and different style. I would recommend everyone to give it a try, it was really worth the money and time. Their team really put in lots of effort to create the dishes.

Started my meal with caesar salad and carrot ginger soup. The caesar salad served in curry caesar dressing, croutons, tandoori chicken. The tandoori chicken was well marinated and tender. The curry caesar dressing was interesting, rarely see people used curry as a salad dressing.

Taste: 3/5

Carrot Ginger Soup - Mild ginger, tomato and cream to make this bowl of soup. The ginger taste was really strong, if you don't ginger, I advise you not to try it.

Taste: 1.4/5

Fish Biryani - This plate of biryani was served with a piece of fish patties, papadum, picked vegetable, raita, almond mint biryani rice topped up with coriander curry. The fish patties was interesting, usually Indian restaurant will serve their fish in a fish form not in patties form but this fish patties was interesting and delicious. The almond mint biryani rice was good too. The curry was flavorful and creamy, if only the curry portion can be more.

Taste: 2/5

Chicken Stew - Coriander cream, curry mash potatoes, mushroom, tomato, and chicken. The curry mash potatoes was creamy and flavorful but it was lacking of the curry aroma. The chicken was tender and flavorful. The sauce was flavorful, thick and peppery.

Taste: 2/5

Complete my meal with a good dessert. Pistachio Creme Brulee - cardamom pistachio with mixed berry chutney. This was the best pistachio creme brulee i had ever try so far!!

Taste: 4/5

Food: 1.7/5
Ambiance: 2.5/5
Service: 3/5

My Verdict:
Decent food at affordable price. During lunch time, they having a set promotion, choose one starter, one main, and one dessert at the price of $15++.
